Why The Iphone Isn’t As Great As You May Think
The iphone was released in 2007 to much acclaim. The Apple rumour mill had been in full flow before the release and it instantly became the most talked about mobile phone model of all time, although not everyone feel in love with it instantly.
The Apple marketing department have worked wonders with the iphone, convincing millions of people around the world that it is the best phone on the marketing and persuading them to buy it. What they don’t tell you is that beneath it’s fabulous shell, the iphone lacks on a number of levels. This article aims to make you completely aware of all it’s downsides.
1. The cost – The iphone is still one of the most expensive mobile phones on the market today, despite recent moves the bring the price down. A large part of the price is simply paying for the ‘Apple’ brand and does not always equate to high quality parts. As the iphone becomes available on more and more networks the price should fall, but while demand remains so high it’s unlikely to fall far.
2. Synchronisation with Microsoft Exchange – For business users who wish to use the iphone for work, this is a huge downside. The iphone doesn’t fully synchronise with Microsoft Exchange which can slow down the rate at which emails are received. Rather than get emails sent to it, the iphone has to check email servers at regular intervals to determine if there are any fresh emails to download.
3. Hard Wired Battery – The battery of an iphone cannot be removed and replaced unless it’s down by a qualified technician. Therefore, if your battery runs out you can’t simply swap it with another one like with most phones, the only option is to put it on charge and wait. Again, this may put off a lot of business users.
4. No keyboard! – As I’m sure you’re aware, the iphone is completely touch screen with no physical buttons. Making the transition for a standard keyboard can be difficult and some people never grasp it completely.
5. iphone camera – The camera on the iphone is definitely one of its weak points. With only 2 megapixels, its well behind its rivals such as the Blackberry, and the difference is quality is noticeable. With the price of the model being so high, more is expected.
